I would have liked to get out into the hills on the solstice but had to make do with a twilight moon communion instead. But I have been quite spoiled because I have a lot of purple flowered varieties and they no longer seem very special! The pink flower is the really rare and unusual one, so that's what I'm going for. But I'm always open minded, so I will keep any of the offspring which look interesting, regardless of flower colour.

Thanks Ann!

Kath - indeed you are right. White flowered peas are almost invariably ones which have had the anthocyanin expression bred out of them. Which means they probably all have some unexpressed colour genes hidden inside them. This is quite exciting really ... because it means that even the most boring looking peas are worth using in a cross and you may get all sorts of unexpected delights out of them.

And the stepladder ... yes, it's going that way. I need my 6'4" music partner to come over and pick them for me.Rebsie Fairholmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17811733792196954188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23047857.post-90765861317934317982010-06-22T12:53:53.925+01:002010-06-22T12:53:53.925+01:00Interesting explanation. Wild peas have coloured flowers. So perhaps peas that haven't been messed around with too much have the capability for coloured flowers still hidden in there.

Are you going to need a stepladder to harvest them?Kathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12841961223771293021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23047857.post-19984000970387885382010-06-22T11:55:37.126+01:002010-06-22T11:55:37.126+01:00Stunning picture of the flowers, will definitely m...Stunning picture of the flowers, will definitely make my day. I like that wild coloration.

If it maintains the flavoring of a garden pea, while triggering the more vivid coloration, would that not be a win-win?Scyllahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03822031765851992717noreply@blogger.com
