It amazes me that people choose to buy lycopene capsules, pineapple capsules, green lip mussel capsules and globe artichoke capsules when they can get their own vitamins and minerals from eating the stuff! better still, they could grow it!Matronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07705506930308472527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23047857.post-31236436282547237522008-10-30T15:27:00.000+00:002008-10-30T15:27:00.000+00:00I heard this item and immediately thought of you! ...I heard this item and immediately thought of you! Playing off the vague memory of nutrition and 'golden' rice. Sad.

Anon: I also hope that the poor and starved also remain to have ownership over their own agricultural genetic heritage which isn't entirely pushed aside by sometimes misguided redundant technologies. It's a parallel misspeak/misthink to "Canadian food agency approves E. coli vaccine for cattle" (http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/525517). Rather than address the root causes - poor diets, industrialization of agriculture, poor hygiene practices, greed, fast, cheap food. We think that a solution can come GM, vaccines etcEJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10547029683066393031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23047857.post-85820430829504089862008-10-28T09:17:00.000+00:002008-10-28T09:17:00.000+00:00Of course I shared the same outrage as all of you ...Of course I shared the same outrage as all of you when hearing about this too, and I'm really glad you posted about it Rebsie! I was going to post on it too, but didn't have time.

One of the great things about these tomatoes is the picture on the BBC:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7688310.stm

Many of us have grown purple tomatoes, and know what they look like, but this doesn't look like any purple tomato I've ever seen! How could anyone eat a tomato that looks like the ones they developed?

I just looks like unadulerated Frankenstein food to me. Unbelievably disgusting!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23047857.post-67709608843471218712008-10-28T03:15:00.000+00:002008-10-28T03:15:00.000+00:00Wow! Silly scientists. I actually like the idea of high anthocyanin tomatoes, so much so that I am growing some next season.

The thing is the seed I'm growing was produced by traditional breeding methods through crossing wild tomato species with commercial lines.

These scientists have expended god knows how much money reproducing something that already exists. If they just looked up from the microscope ocular once in a while they might see what we already see.

That is that GM is giving us nothing; and that time and traditional breeding methods can achieve the most worthy of their goals without their supposed shortcuts.

kinda funny that this new science of theirs was made obsolete decades if not millenia before its conception.

Check out the link below for more info and discussion on the non GM high anthocyanin tomato.

http://alanbishop.proboards60.com/index.cgi?board=tomatoes&action=display&thread=312&page=1Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23047857.post-70449812620179857862008-10-27T19:59:00.000+00:002008-10-27T19:59:00.000+00:00I read this tonight with similar cynicism. A fact that industries of all kinds use to hoodwink consumers by dressing up their own particular brand of propaganda in the clothes of science.
I remember the days when as a young hack I was taught to a) question everything, b) disbelieve any assertion that couldn't be proven, and c) assume officials were lying until they could show otherwise.
Those days are LONG gone.
